I personally prefer a great game that is short than a long boring game. Arietta has a limited story but it is well written and funny. There is also a bit of deep dialogs which I won’t spoil but make the overall game amazing. There is a difficulty setting that you can’t change during the game. I recommend the “hard” difficulty for people who are used to this type of game. Even in hard mode the game is not punishing at all. If you die you restart at the beginning of that screen. It’s still a lot nicer that Legend of Zelda. This game’s story starts off very generic and bland but the good game-play kept me invested through that. Little more than halfway through the story takes a very sharp turn and becomes a lot more interesting. That said, the turn is so sharp it’s a little jarring. This game is not very long, I was able to complete it within one session. I know saying a game not being very long often sounds like a negative, in this case it isn’t. The game mechanics and combat system was great, in my opinion; just hard enough that you are challenged but not getting frustrated enough to quit playing. I do wish there had been a little more twist of an ending, I had one in my head as I was finishing the story like a: “If it would’ve ended the way, this story would’ve been so great!” I got hyped about my own imaginary ending, which speaks more to the lackluster story.
